Amy LeFebvre: I am a BA
Studio Art major concentrating on figure drawing and painting with a
minor in Sociology and Anthropology. Coming from Granville,
Massachusetts, my work focuses on the differences between people and the
human form. The majority of my work includes pencil and charcoal
drawings, but I am expanding my experiences with oil paints and am
particularly influenced by John Singer Sargent.
Alex Michener: I'm a painter from St. Louis who works with oils. My practice revolves
around the obfuscation of Dionysian principals through observing the
temporality and discreetness of form and gesture. I find my work fits
in the trajectory of art historical traditions of such masters as Mathew
Day Jackson and Jocelyn Hobbie.
Challen Brown: I am from Cardington, Ohio. My concentration is photography and that is what I primarily focus on. My art is about conveying certain ideas and aspects to people through photographs, mostly documentary. It's also about showing people the things they do not normally notice, by using certain angles and highlighting small details that people often disregard in their daily lives. I often like to photograph subject matter and places that are not necessarily considered beautiful by the public, and show why these things actually are beautiful and important.
Danielle Haley: I'm a BA major with a
concentration in photography. My hometown is Toledo, Ohio. I shoot mostly
with film, but I also experiment with digital photography. I've recently
been scanning my film and editing it in Photoshop to achieve high
contrast images of different textures. I draw inspiration from Jackson
Pollock and Stephane Chalmeau.
Elizabeth Warner: I am a BFA major concentrating in Photography with a minor in Education.
I am from Plain City, Ohio. In my work, I focus on line work and
movement and how those connect to bring out the simplicities that make
life intricate. I photograph landscape and urban scenes while being
influenced by new discoveries that are found when looking in familiar
spaces.
Ha Le: I’m from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I am a
senior Fine Arts major with concentrations in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking. My art has been mostly figurative, but I’m moving towards pure abstraction.
I have been involved in several art related activities and organizations: Art
Department Student Board, Ross Art Museum, Delaware Art Center, New York Arts
Program, Chezcharmes jeweler, installation artist Jean Shin. Right after graduation,
I will be heading to the greatest destination for art enthusiasts: New York
City!
Hannah Appelbaum: As a BFA concentrating in ceramics and painting, my pieces vary from
expressive portraiture to meditative carving and sculpture. I'm drawn to
very detailed images and designs. Recently I have had the opportunity
to work in metals, and I get a lot of gratification from creating
intricate piercing and soldering designs. My inspiration comes from
artists such as Dürer and Cezanne, and forms from sea life.
Hazel Barrera: I am a BA-Studio Art major concentrating in metals. I am from Cd. Juarez, Mexico. I
use mainly copper and mineral pigments. I do a lot of form-forming and
dye-forming, etching and hand-made chains. My work focuses on Mexican
identity and femininity a lot of it influenced by Frida Kahlo.
JaeMin Chung: I am from
Seoul, S. Korea. I am a BFA- Studio Art major and my concentration is in graphic
design. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to design advertising and
marketing materials. This includes logos, posters, booklets, info-graphics, and
pamphlets. I’m also interested in book making, because my graphic
design skills allow me to create unique artist books. I believe that art is the language
of emotions. Through art, I am trying to express my inner most feelings and I
wish to communicate my thoughts and emotions with people around the world.
Katasha Ross: I'm
an Ohio raised artist with a concentration is small-scale metalworking
and an interest in painting. Patterns have always fascinated me,
especially those found in nature, so patterns that I create with inspiration from nature come up again and again in my work, especially in my jewelry.
Maddy Mavec: I am from Cleveland, Ohio. As a Bachelor of Fine
Arts major, my two concentrations are painting and ceramics. Geometric
shapes fascinate me and are a large part of both my paintings and ceramics. Whether it is through observation
of my surrounding environment or looking inward at my personality, the
geometric forms I use are visual displays of
myself. They represent the perfection and order I
seek in my life as well as visually display the risks I am willing to take to
push myself and these forms. My
work is not just random geometric shapes, it is the various aspects of myself.
Matt Wasserman: I am a BFA in Photography with a minor in Psychology. My work
incorporates my interest in the eye and brain by creating art that
provokes the viewer into both appreciating and solving the puzzle that
is my work. Photography is my preferred medium, but I also exhibit work
in mixed media.
Melissa Ward: I am a BFA major, with a concentration in drawing and painting, from Delaware Ohio. I work in charcoal and ink to create my drawings. My works focus mainly
on the figure as well as the beautiful mistakes that can happen within the mediums
themselves while making a piece.
Ngoc (Allie) Le: My concentration is in photography and graphic design. I prefer using a digital camera, analog camera, and various programs on the computer.
Sanaa Hazratjee: I was born in Texas to a Greek and British mother and Pakistani father. I am a
graduating senior majoring in Art, and minoring in Economics and Philosophy. I mostly define myself as a hyper-realist draftsman, however, I
also enjoy the 3D arts, especially in ceramics and metals. I like to
showcase my cultural heritage through my art, and often reflect adopted
styles from Pakistan, such as Arabic Calligraphy, both in the literal
sense of creating art with text, as well as with the curvature nature of
my artwork itself.
Sonja Petermann: I am from St. Louis, MO. My concentrations are in printmaking and drawing. I enjoy working from the figure in an indoor space, and strive to create interesting compositions using shapes made by light and adding layers of texture to create depth.
Suzy Stephens: I concentrated in
photography and computer imaging for my expected BFA degree. Although
my field is becoming dominated by digital and theoretical works, I love
connecting to process and tangible materials. Ohio Wesleyan’s BFA
program has given me the opportunity to paint, draw, saw, form and
touch. I have come to see photography in a very broad sense; I find
myself thinking in books-- what I can document with my camera, what
handmade features I can add-- how to grasp the physical realm. Digital
collages are practice for getting my hands dirty with layers I can
actually feel. I gesture, make marks, transfer photos--I define the
parameters of my art, and then I let the medium speak.
Tyler Travis: I am a BFA student focusing on painting. I'm from Delaware, OH, and I do progressive art under the umbrella of American pop art with some German Expressionist influences.
